Supervision

What should I expect?

As an LMSW working towards LCSW you must obtain 100 total hours of supervision, meeting with supervisor for 4 hours a month. All sessions will be online, using Zoom or another HIPAA protected platform, and therefore you can be located anywhere in Texas. Most people participate in 2 two-hour group supervision. Hours must be obtained within a minimum of 24 months, but no longer than 48 months. You must be employed and work at least 30 hours per week in order to qualify for supervision. You need 3,000 total work hours when you submit your final paperwork to be eligible for the licensing exam.

Will my job qualify?

The board has determined that you must assess, diagnose, and treat mental health/substance abuse disorders utilizing DSM-V criteria for at least four hours per week in your employment to qualify for LCSW Supervision.

Linda Hamza, LCSW-S will be happy to look over your current job description to help you decide if it will meet criteria for clinical supervision. Whether you work in a behavioral health hospital, outpatient program, medical hospital, home health, school setting, insurance company, CPS, private practice, non-profit, or a police department, if you have direct contact with clients or patients as well as utilize clinical skills you probably meet criteria for LCSW supervision.

What can I expect from group supervision?

It is my goal that at the end of your supervision hours, and before you sit for you LCSW exam that you are confident in your clinical ability, including understanding how to diagnose utilizing the DSM-V, various treatment modalities, common medications and how to advocate for clients using them, as well as confident in your ability to pass the LCSW exam.

Group members are encouraged to come to each session with a case or an ethical dilemma to present, give and receive constructive feedback, as well as discuss transference and countertransference as appropriate. We will discuss current events as well and how to best advocate for our clients in various roles we participate in as social workers.

Although most sessions will be in group format, individual sessions are also available, as it may be helpful to discuss something directly with me.
